First Quarter

The first quarter is in full swing! The students have our routines down pat and we are charging full steam ahead!

Kindergarten: We've worked hard to learn how to login to the network using the number pad on the keyboard and practice our mouse skills. Be sure to check out my mouse skills page for further practice!

First Grade: They are pros at logging into the network! What amazing memories!

We'll flex our creative juices, creating our own art online drawing inspiration from the books The Dot and Ish by Peter K. Reynolds. We're all excited to see where a line or mark will take us! As we finish the quarter, students will use research they gathered in the ILC with Mrs. Bates about extreme weather to produce a page with text and picture about their researched weather.

Second Grade: It's hard to believe that this tech savvy crew were just first graders a few months back. They reviewed how to login and worked on their keyboarding skills. We just started our multi-week "Monster" project which involves grammar, drawing, creating a graphic organizer, and collaboration. We'll revisit our monsters in the later part of the year.

To finish the quarter, we'll complete a webquest on Sequoyah to support learning in the classroom and  create a class digital book about this famous Georgian utilizing PowerPoint!

Third Grade: They had their formal introduction to typing and have now embarked on their three year journey in the typing program, Type to Learn 4. We also managed to fit in a little intro. to Word 2013. Students learned about text alignment, font changes, and saving. I am so proud of all they accomplished.

For the rest of the quarter, we're going to be trailblazers as we delve into the new online features of BrainPop. Students will setup their own accounts, join their teacher's online class, and gain the ability to submit work. This will support future third grade 'flipped' lessons. Topics will include Rocks and Minerals and Fossils. They are excited about being able to work on projects at home and at school!

Fourth Grade: Will your student ever get home? Our Stowaway project introduction was a big hit! We'll be learning more and more about Microsoft Excel utilizing real-time data, plotting latitude and longitude digitally in Google Earth, , and researching about our Ports of Call. Students will create itineraries and share about their destination through PowerPoint. Finally, we'll wrap up our project with a little math and a reflection created collaboratively in Office 365. 

Fifth Grade: Fifth graders are all set to utilize Office 365 this year. We'll begin our journey utilizing the web-based Microsoft app Sway to create a dynamic presentation about classroom learning. Topics will range from the Civil War, Reconstruction, Constructive and Destructive Forces, Levees, Pangaea, and the Ring of Fire. Phew!
