It's hard to believe that we're only a few short weeks away from finishing the first half of the school year. I've received wonderful feedback from the teachers about how the students are navigating computers when not in the lab. Hooray! Here's what we're working on currently:
Kindergarten - My Kindergarten friends have loved KidPix 3D. Around Halloween they used drawing features as well as animation and sound to create a digital slide (See an example below.). We will continue to explore this program while meeting the standard of drawing an original picture. This is no small task since they are using a mouse! First - In first grade, student have been using The Graph Club to graph and analyze data. From The Very Hungry Caterpillar to our favorite Thanksgiving foods to their own survey, students are learning every aspect of the program AND how to look at data with different types of graphs. Second - Our monster project is finally finished! Phew! We have moved onto Kidspiration to map our knowledge of Mary Musgrove. Students used their background knowledge from the classroom and new learning through videos and websites to categorize information about her early life, historical impact, and life's work. Third - Third grade is learning about Soil! Fun, fun! It WILL be fun when they use their knowledge of PowerPoint to create an infographic of what they've learned about soil. I can't wait to share their work! Fourth - Our fourth grade students are all over the globe learning about the culture, sights, and sounds of their stowaway destination. I have loved seeing their enthusiasm for learning something completely new to them, and we've thrown in a few more Word lessons into the mix as well (text editing, bullet points, and working with pictures in Word). We will wrap up this project before the semester's end using mathematics to calculate the distance they have traveled and how long that distance took as well as how long it should take them to reach their port. Fifth - Using their health standard on cyber safety, fifth graders will work in groups to create a public service announcement educating other fourth and fifth graders learning and using PowerPoint and Animoto.
