Problem: Animals in Action

Picture
Do you remember what Ms. Morales asked Angelina, Mylo, and Suzi to make for the preschool students at their school?
Yes! They are creating animations that teach preschoolers about animals in their habitats. Angelina, Mylo, and Suzi have been thinking about which animals they’ll use in their animations and in what ways they will show the animals’ basic needs.
Now it’s your turn! Using all of the things you’ve learned about programming in ScratchJr, create an animation about an animal, its basic needs, and its habitat.
What animal would you like to use? Where does it live? What are its basic needs? These are all things you need to think about when designing your animation.
As a computer scientist, you need to be sure to use the engineering design process to complete this problem. Click on the file below to download launch log pages to help you through the process before and after you get into ScratchJr.

Activity 1: Code a Person
Remember when we played Move it, Move it with our friends in technology class? See if you can play it without the cards and get your mom, dad, brother, or sister to complete some sort of movement with your "code"!

We've had so much fun making a mark and seeing where it takes us with our drawing/digital art unit using the web app Kleki, link above. If you get the chance, stop by the 700 Hall to see all the creative ways to make a dot and help us celebrate International Dot Day which is celebrated September 15ish!

Peter Reynolds and his books celebrate kids and encourages them to take risks and be proud of their efforts.

Check out the video below to sing The Dot Song with motions led by Emily Arrow, songwriter.
